Venko Andonovski
Venko Andonovski (1964, Kumanovo), Professor of Literature at the Faculty of Philology ‘Blazhe Koneski’ in Skopje. Novelist, playwright, film scriptwriter, critic. One of the best-selling Macedonian authors in
the past decade. His novel ‘The Navel of the World’ was sold in
12,000 copies, and ‘Witch’ in 7,000. One of the most staged and most popular playwrights in the last ten years in Macedonia.
He is the winner of all domestic awards for prose, play and critic, as
well as of the international awards ‘Balkanika’, for the novel
‘The Navel of the World’ and ‘Jugra’ (Russian international award for the best novel from the Slavic Literature translated in Russian, for ‘The Navel of the World’).
Andonovski is the author of a total of 32 books from different genres. Best works: Frescoes and Grotesques (short stories); The Alphabet of the Disobedient, The Navel of the World, The Witch, The Daughter of the Mathematician (novels). Best staged plays: Rebellion in the Old Folks' Home, The Slavic Chest, Candid in Wonderland, Black Dollies, Cinegonda in Carlaland, Border, Lead on Pillow, One for Everyone, Dogs Genetics.
His works have been translated in about ten languages.
